PhD programs in the professional field of 9.1.National security

The Higher School of Security and Economics trains students in two PhD programs from the professional field of 9.1 “National Security”. The Standing Committee on Social and Legal Sciences at the NAOA granted program accreditation to the doctoral (PhD) programs:
• COUNTERING CRIME AND PUBLIC ORDER PROTECTION
• COUNTER-TERRORISM (Organization and management of anti-terrorist activity)

The two PhD programs provide the opportunity to acquire the scientific degree “Doctor” in three forms of study – full-time, part-time and independent. The doctoral programs of HSSE in the professional field of “National security” are aimed at training PhD’s for research on problems related to the theoretical foundation of the organization, management and counteraction of crime and terrorism. In this regard, several main goals and task related to training have formulated:
◦ A priority goal in the training of personnel is the acquisition of the educational and scientific degree “doctor”;
◦ Responding to the specific needs of the educational and scientific center “National Security and Public Order” and, in particular, the Department of “National Security and Public Order” for the development of personnel at HSSE;
◦ Actuality of the programs laid at the basis of the scientific direction;
◦ Training of personnel to be competitive in the application of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of security;
◦ Systematized and in-depth theoretical preparation of PhD students to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to carry out original research on a relevant scientific problem and topic in the field of security;
◦ Stimulation of individual and collective research work;
◦ High quality of doctoral programs, complemented by interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary programs;
◦ Competitiveness of the doctoral program at the national and European level, which contributes to the confirmation and increase of the authority of HSSE.

The scientific and theoretical preparation of PhD students at HSSE is essential in view not only of the scientific significance of the dissertation works they develop, but also of their subsequent realization in the scientific field of 9.1 “National Security”. The accumulation of pedagogical experience and methodological skills is directly related to the scientific-theoretical preparation of PhD students. Conducting periodical meetings of PhD students with their scientific supervisors, consultations with the holders of the various disciplines included as a minimum in their individual plans, as well as attending specialized seminars and scientific conferences in this field are the basis on which methodological skills and opportunities are built.

During the training process, PhD students in the programs develop skills such as:
◦ Applying a scientific approach and using scientific tools in the research work;
◦ Mastering the methodology of scientific research and its application through the prism of the specific scientific and practical problem;
◦ Acquisition of specialized and systematized knowledge for performing critical analysis and synthesizing new ideas;
◦ Developing the ability to expand and modify existing knowledge in the field of security;
◦ Forming of special knowledge and skills for working with various information sources and acquisition of high computer and language training, oriented towards ensuring personal information awareness and facilitating professional contacts with scientists from other countries in the field of security;
◦ Building abilities to search, derive and analyze scientific and practical problems;
◦ Forming informed judgments on complex security issues;

Graduation of doctoral students takes place after passing exams included in the candidate’s individual plan and defense of the PhD dissertation according to the regulated rules according to the Law on Higher Education and the Law on the Development of the Academic Staff in the Republic of Bulgaria. Doctoral students who successfully complete the accredited PhD programs in the field of “National Security” at HSSE have the opportunity to realize themselves as senior experts in the state administration, international organizations and their institutions, as well as highly qualified analysts in non-governmental organizations, teachers and researchers in universities and other scientific institutes in the country and abroad.

PhD program “Economics, finance and labor organization”

The PhD program gives the opportunity to acquire the scientific degree “doctor” in three forms of study – full-time, part-time and independent. The PhD programs of HSSE in the professional field “Economics” are aimed at training doctoral students to study problems related to economic development in a regional and global aspect.
The program meets the needs of the economic sector for professionals capable of solving complex economic problems, making realistic economic forecasts, predicting and managing economic risks. The tasks set by the PhD program are related to the preparation of highly qualified experts capable of:
◦ Perform effective analysis of economic, political and technological processes;
◦ Develop innovative economic models;
◦ Conduct independent research on a specific business problem;
◦ Offer practical solutions to specific business challenges.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND COMPETENCES OF THE PROGRAM GRADUATES:
Graduates of the PhD program acquire the following knowledge, skills and competencies:

The doctoral programs of HSSE in the professional field “Administration and Management” are aimed at training doctoral students to study problems related to management at the local and global level.
The program meets the needs of the economic sector for professionals capable of solving complex management problems in the conditions of the constantly developing economic environment.

The tasks set by the PhD program are related to the preparation of highly qualified experts capable of:
◦ good practices in resource management recognition;
◦ effective production’s state structures analysis performance;
